Future car: a Goodyear concept tyre for the electric LF-30

The Goodyear tyre brand has worked in partnership with Lexus to celebrate its 30th year of existence. To mark the occasion, the LF-30 concept car fitted with four Goodyear tyres was presented at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show and in Europe, during the Virtual Press Data of the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show.

Goodyear’s concept tyres are tailor made to glorify the elegant, modern and sporty lines of the luxury car. Through their design, the tyres contribute to the overall comfort, the performance of the car and the autonomy of its electric motor. It also meets the Lexus requirements for sustainable mobility.

Goodyear has worked on several technical points to create a unique driving experience.

  • Concept tyres designed to improve the cooling of EV electric motors: air enters through the front bumper intake and the fins on the tyres drive the flow towards the electric motor positioned behind each wheel. Hot air produced by the EV motor is then expelled towards the outer edge of the rim of the electric LF-30.
  • Tyres designed to reduce the aerodynamic drag: the outer shape of the tyre improved the aerodynamics of the Lexus by reducing the drag and increasing the efficiency and battery range.
  • Concept tyres designed to reduce noise through biomimicry: Goodyear has drawn inspiration from nature by creating cooling fins covered with fine velvet, like on the wings of an owl. We know that the predator can silently catch its prey at night. Through this biomimicry, Goodyear hopes to reduce tyre rolling noise to a minimum.
