As official Formula 1 tyre supplier, Pirelli has seized the opportunity to develop new partnerships. This time, it is Japanese car manufacturer Infiniti, subsidiary of the Renault-Nissan Alliance that has sought to collaborate with the Italian tyre manufacturer on its new concept car.

Unveiled in March at the Geneva International Motor Show, the ‘Black S’ concept aims to become the next model in Infiniti’s range-topping hybrid vehicle line-up. Directly inspired by Formula 1 single-seaters, the Japanese car manufacturer needed a partner with in-depth knowledge of this type of sports car. “Having another key Formula One player involved is proof of the interest it generates and will add even more focus on performance delivery. As we explore the feasibility of ‘Project Black S’, Pirelli’s input and knowledge, both motorsport and automotive, will be invaluable. We couldn’t be happier to have them on board”, explained Tommaso Volpe, Infiniti’s Global Motorsport Director.

Although Pirelli is giving little away for the time being, the Infiniti concept car should be fitted with a special model of the ‘PZero Coloured Edition’, similar to tyres used on Formula one circuits and exclusively designed for Infiniti’s ‘Black S’ concept car.
