Product description

Safety. Open channels on centre blocks and polished grooves effectively push slush and water away to reduce the risk of aquaplaning or slushplaning. The Nokian Weatherproof tread compound, tailored for extreme temperature variations, delivers strong grip throughout the year.

Winter. The heavy siping on V-shaped tread blocks at the centre further improve grip on snow. Better snow performance thanks to the tread compound made with silica and canola oil. This tyre carries the 3PMSF marking indicating it is officially approved for winter use.

Handling. Stiff shoulder blocks offer steering precision and driving stability at high speed. SUVs enjoy improved stability.

NOKIAN WEATHERPROOF: THE NEW BENCHMARK FOR ALL SEASON TYRES?

The all season tyre market is booming and Nokian has not escaped this current trend. Weatherproof is the name given to the Finnish tyre manufacturer’s new tyre which promises first class safety in all circumstances. So, let’s check it out.

Keen observers will not have failed to notice the situation. The all season tyre segment is enjoying unprecedented activity. This category of tyres, previously shunned by certain tyre manufacturers, is gaining recognition: Pirelli Cinturato All SeasonFirestone Multiseason are among the new tyres that assume a direct relationship with winter tyres, whereas the Michelin CrossClimate positions itself as a summer tyre... suitable for winter!

Therefore, it is not surprising that the tyre manufacturer, presented as the inventor of snow tyres, is positioning its Weatherproof as a winter tyre derivative.

Innovative technical choices

The Weatherproof uses structural elements taken from the new WR D4, such as its casing. The V-shaped tread blocks with wide channels are designed to store snow and open shoulders effectively push water away.
According to Nokian, its dual silica compound is one of the key elements behind this tyre’s versatility, which is announced as delivering high performance in summer and in winter.
Partially developed on the Nordic test track at Ivalo where we had the opportunity to discover it, this tyre has also been developed on high speed tracks in Germany and Spain. An approach that reflects the desire to offer a versatile product, adapted to seasonal changes.
The first tests show that this tyre has a competitive edge over its rivals. We will give you more details soon.

For whom? For what?

Even if the Weatherproof bears the 3PMSF symbol which indicates its real winter capabilities, it should not be considered as such. Like all other all season tyres it is designed for motorists driving in different conditions (dry, rain, slush) and who, from time to time, encounter snow. However, for frequent snowy conditions, it is best to consider alpine tyres, or even Nordic tyres.

Designed for Central European countries, it will be available in sizes ranging from 13 to 18 inches for passenger cars, from 16 to 18 inches for SUVs, and from 14 to 16 inches for vans.

What is the rezulteo score?

The rezulteo score is calculated considering three performance categories: economy, comfort and safety. When it comes to winter tyres, the performance criteria snow and ice are added. By weighting different basic performance criteria an overall score is determined. This weighting is calculated based on the tyre size category: economic, high performance or sports.
