How to adjust tyre pressure in the winter
In the winter, the drop in temperatures automatically reduces your tyre pressure. To compensate for this reduction, it is recommended that you add 3 PSI (0.2 bars) to the recommended pressure.
Steps to adjust your winter tyre pressure:
- First of all, check the manufacturer’s recommended pressure for your vehicle. This can be found in your car’s handbook and either on the label on the inside of your petrol cap or on the driver’s door. You can also find it in our vehicle directory.
- Add 3 PSI (0.2 bars) to this recommended pressure.
- Always inflate your tyres cold, i.e. at least 2 hours after use or before driving more than 2 miles (at slow speeds).
How often should you check your tyre pressure?
Remember to check your tyre pressure at least once a month, and before a long journey.
If you drive on tyres at the wrong pressure, your tyres will wear more quickly and this could lead to a blowout. Incorrectly inflated tyres also mean less grip on the road and increased fuel consumption. Checking your tyres regularly is a win-win solution!
