Tyre manufacturer Dunlop proposes the Sport Maxx RT 2 SUV tyre to ride in towns and very rough roads when there is fine weather. With its high performances in terms of comfort and safety, it is engineered for urban 4x4s, Crossovers or SUVs.

With versions featuring the "Mud And Snow" marking, it allows this pneumatic tyre to safely be used to drive on mud and snow (certificate established by the tyre brand). Finally, the stability of the product is increased on versions with an asymmetric tread of the casing, which encourages high evacuation of water.

This high capability product benefits from a number of assets: a limited exposure of aquaplaning, short stopping distances in dry weather or in rain, an optimum handling in rainy weather and a comfortable ride with a moderate noise level in the passenger compartment. Tyre manufacturer Dunlop has unveiled a new version of its Sport Maxx RT 2 tyre, designed for SUVs.

The SUV craze is here to stay

With SUVs now accounting for around one in three car sales in Europe, tyre manufacturers are expanding their offer for this segment. Goodyear recently released an SUV version of the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3. Now it's British subsidiary Dunlop's turn, with the launch of the Sport Maxx RT 2 SUV. Known for its sportiness, this tyre is designed to provide a high level of performance for powerful and generally heavier vehicles such as the Porsche Cayenne, Audi A8 or Volkswagen Tiguan.

Optimising tyre performance

Dunlop engineers have been busy adapting their sports tyre to fit the technical characteristics of SUVs. For starters, the tyre has been given a larger footprint, intended to provide more balanced pressure distribution and even contact with the road for improved cornering grip and handling at high speeds. The tread compound has also changed with the addition of a traction resin. Dunlop says that this new compound will create more friction with the road, increasing the tyre’s grip. According to Mike Rytokoski, Marketing Director at Goodyear Dunlop Europe, these innovations are the result of the manufacturer’s success in motorsports, “Dunlop’s winning motorsport experience is a fundamental asset used to design and develop ultra high-performance tyres”, he said. “Motorsport represents the ultimate test and proving ground as it enables us to collect substantial amounts of data and feedback from drivers and push forward the boundaries of innovation”, he added.
