COOPER DISCOVERER S/T MAXX POR: FOR EXTREME OFF-ROAD DRIVING

Although the Discoverer S/T Maxx POR can be driven on the road, Cooper is targeting drivers who spend most of their time off the beaten track. This is a 4x4 tyre for the professional off-road driver, built for adventure seekers heading to the glaciers of Siberia or deserts of Africa.

This positioning is reflected by the choice of Dakar Rally legend, Xavi Foj as the tyre’s ambassador. Foj, who competed in 27 Dakar Rallies and won 3, was personally involved in the tyre’s development, particularly in terms of all-terrain performance. According to the Spanish racer, “This is the perfect tyre for the Dakar. It is a race which is all about durability which requires continuity in performance while adapting to the diversity of driving conditions. The Discoverer S/T Maxx POR. has it all”.

A reinforced tyre

In terms of performance, the Discoverer S/T Maxx POR has primarily been developed to withstand extreme off-road driving conditions. The tyre features Cooper’s ‘Armor-Tek 3’ technology designed to absorb impacts and improve durability thanks to a three-ply silica compound which strengthens the tyre’s sidewall and tread.  A 14.7 mm tread depth also contributes to the tyre’s durability.

In addition, the tyre uses an alternating 4- or 5-rib tread pattern (depending on the tyre size), designed to enhance the tyre’s on- and off- road performance. 

According to Cooper, the outer edges of the tread minimize stone retention and stone drilling, while increasing the tyre’s resistance to cutting and chipping when used in gravel. A rut guard rib placed in the upper sidewall area of the tyre is designed to deflect objects and improve wear resistance in tough, uneven terrain.

Certified M+S, the Discoverer S/T POR can efficiently handle mud and snow. The tyre is also studdable for improved performance in icy conditions.
