Electric but sporty

Already supplier of original equipment tyres for the BMW i3, Bridgestone will continue its partnership with the German car manufacturer for its new electric vehicle. More elegant and sportier, the BMW i3s has set Bridgestone different challenges compared with the standard i3 version. The dilemma facing the tyre manufacturer was to develop an efficient and sporty tyre for this more powerful vehicle.

Ecopia tyres go sporty

Bridgestone chose the Ecopia EP500 tyre with the brand’s “Ologic” technology for the BMW i3. Known for being tall and narrow, these tyres are fitted on 20-inch diameter rims. “Ologic technology helps these vehicles optimise performance," said Christophe de Valroger, Vice President of Original Equipment, Bridgestone EMEA. "It does this without any trade-off in terms of safety”, he added. According to the tyre manufacturer, the tread pattern of the Ecopia EP500 ensures excellent grip, even in wet weather conditions. The model developed for the BMW i3s receives a B-rating for wet grip and rolling resistance on the EU tyre.

If we believe Christophe de Valroger, this is just a first step for Bridgestone which has a long-term vision for its Ologic technology. “Ologic technology should help us in achieving our long-term goal of a 50 percent global reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050.. [...] We are proud to have them guide us into the future”.
