HankookWinter i*cept evo 3: car or SUV, a winter tyre for each
Hankook is renewing its range of winter tyres with the arrival of the Winter i*cept evo3 and the Winter i*cept evo 3 X. The South Korean tyre brand is launching its new winter tyre for passenger cars and another version for SUVs. The new feature? The tyre has a directional tread pattern and uses technical innovations to provide excellent grip on snow and wet surfaces.
Hankook winter tyre for cars or SUVs
Hankook starts the cold season with, for the first time, the launch of two new tyres in the Ultra High Performance winter segment: Winter i*cept evo 3 and Winter i*cept evo 3 X. The first is a winter tyre for cars and the second a winter tyre for SUVs. They succeed the Winter i*cept evo 2 which served as original equipment for many European premium vehicle manufacturers.
The German Autobild magazine has already awarded the “Exemplary” top mark to the Winter i*cept evo 3 tyre during a recent test of 56 tyres in the size 245/45 R18 100 V on a BMW 5-Series.
Hankook winter tyre: a directional tread pattern
The specificity of the new Hankook winter tyres lies in the development and the technology used for the tread pattern. For the first time, the Korean brand has chosen a directional tread pattern. This type of pattern provides excellent grip on snow and reduces the risk of aquaplaning.
“With the Winter i*cept evo 3 and Winter i*cept evo 3 X, our development engineers have created two lines of winter tyres with a wide range of product features that are able to respond particularly well to the changing and increasingly demanding winter weather conditions. We are therefore confident that these new tread patterns will meet our customers’ high expectations,” says Sanghoon Lee, President and COO of Hankook Tire Europe.
Hankook has taken climate change into account where mild temperatures alternate with cold temperatures, like dry days alternate with heavy rainfall. The new generation of tyres must respond to these unexpected weather conditions.
To achieve this, the tread uses natural pine resins and special additives so that the rubber remains flexible at low temperatures. It also significantly improves grip on wet surfaces.
With the directional pattern and V-shaped tread, braking distances are 7% shorter on wet and 10% shorter on snowy roads compared to previous tread patterns.
The nano-silica compound and 3D sipes help the tyre adapt to the type of surface to provide better traction. The blocks grip the snow effectively to offer stability and peace of mind when driving on snowy roads.
What tyre sizes are available for the Winter i*cept evo 3?
The Hankook Winter i*cept evo 3 for cars will be available in 50 sizes from 17 to 21 inches for speed indexes from H to W. As for the SUV version, the Winter i*cept evo 3 X is already available in 45 sizes from 17 to 22 inches for speed indexes from H to W. The line-up will be completed over the course of next year.
