Renault has just presented the Megane RS Trophy-R, expected to be the best performing compact sports car ever marketed. Its efficiency has been proved at the Nürburgring track through a record breaking lap time. Among the many changes made to it, the Megane RS Trophy-R is now fitted with the ultra high performance Bridgestone Potenza S007 tyres.
Nürburgring has become the subject of a full-scale technical, marketing and commercial war for some car manufacturers who propose compact front wheel drive sports cars in their sales catalogues.
But Renault has hit hard by presenting the Megane IV RS Trophy R, since the French car manufacturer has said loud and clear that it would crush the competition. With as its main argument, a lap time of 7’40’’100 on the Nürburgring track; which is more than three seconds faster than the Civic which held the record.
To improve its Megane RS, Renault has worked with the best specialist suppliers: Brembo for the brakes, Akrapovic for the exhaust system, Öhlins for the suspension, Sabelt for the bucket seats and Bridgestone for the tyres.
The semi-slick S007 was chosen, a tyre designed for exceptional sports cars, and only available in large sizes (17 to 20 inch rims). The result is unbelievable efficiency due to the grip these tyres deliver, but also their seamless operation with the running gear.
American tyre manufacturer Goodyear has announced its return to the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the start of the 2019/2020 season. A new range of tyres has been developed for the occasion.
The Volkswagen ID.R has just set a new lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife (North loop) in the all-electric vehicle category. An exceptional performance achieved jointly with tyre manufacturer Bridgestone, revealing the overall change taking place in the mobility world.
