Michelin has unveiled a new connected tyre solution at an event organised at the Almeria track in Spain. This technology will accompany amateur race drivers wherever they go.

New Technology for the Pilot Sport Cup 2

A Ferrari 488 GTB and a selection of Porsche GT3 ’s take to the sun-drenched Almeria track in Spain: Michelin has pulled out all the stops to present its new intelligent tyre solution. Named Track Connect, this system connects the tyres with a mobile application, which displays a variety of tyre data in real time.

Sensors installed in the tyres communicate with a receiver that is plugged into the cigarette lighter or USB port. This receiver transmits signals to a mobile application, which in turn processes the data and displays it. The technology already exists in motorsports, but this is the first time that it has been made available to the general public. For the moment, Track Connect is available exclusively with Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.

This shared initiative with several leading manufacturers is the result of a partnership between Michelin and members of Porsche Club France. “The Michelin Track Connect all began with feedback from consumers”, said Jean-Philippe Desfarge, Innovation Connected Leader for Michelin. “A few months ago, they told us they regretted not having reliable pressure and temperature measurements when driving on the track.”

Michelin accompanies your every lap

Track Connect assists drivers at each stage of their lap to boost their driving experience. Before heading out onto the track, the app recommends the most suitable tyre pressure depending on the vehicle, the driving surface and the weather conditions.

During the lap, the app displays the exact tyre pressure and temperature in real time. A behavioural gauge indicates changes to the vehicle’s balance and any tendency to over or under steer. A stopwatch completes the device’s features.

Finally, after completing a lap, the driver can consult the data recorded and make the necessary adjustments before heading back out onto the track.


The Michelin Track Connect will go on sale in the UK in 2019. It will be available for 11 sizes of the Pilot Sport Cup 2, for 18- to 21-inch diameter rims. The kit can be reused with a new set of tyres.
