3 ideas for outings by car
For our day to day travelling, most of us spend a lot of time in cars. And, for its primary transport function, it is very practical. But why not use it to our advantage for leisure activities as well? How can we entertain ourselves without getting out of our car? Visit tourist attractions, family activities or leisure activities with friends, use your car to vary the pleasures during the weekend or holidays.
Idea N° 1: visit towns by car!
When setting off on holiday, we like to take our time. It is the perfect opportunity to take a short detour to visit unusual places, towns with interesting architecture and breathtaking landscapes. Drive along the most beautiful roads during your holidays for a complete change. Discover tourist attractions differently with your car.
Some tourist boards propose self-drive car tours to explore regions or towns with many cultural monuments scattered around. You won’t stop for long or even, not at all. Prepared itineraries found on websites or in tourist brochures will allow you to organise your visit. From the smallest to the largest, many towns provide ideas of what to visit by car.

Idea N°2: go on a safari by car!
We are far from safaris across the plains of Africa, but spending some time observing wild animals in semi captivity is an experience to live. Many zoos propose this activity to allow you to see their animals roaming freely. Try to visit when the zoo is not crowded and when the animals are likely to come into the open. This type of trip, which really pleases children, should be enjoyed while respecting the wildlife and complying with the regulations of the zoo. You will be amazed as you approach giraffes, lions, wolves, bears, zebras, etc and many other species, from inside your vehicle! West Midland Safari Park (just under an hour’s drive from central Birmingham), Woburn Safari Park in Milton Keynes, Knowsley Safari (near Liverpool), Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, Blair Drummond Safari Park near Stirling, Scotland, and the Port Lympne Reserve in Kent, are some of the best safari parks in the UK to visit with your family.
However, there are times you will have to be patient (especially the children)…it will be easier with 8 games with no equipment to play in the car.
Idea N°3: meet at the drive-in!
In the summer period, open air cinemas are very successful. The drive-in offers a real immersion in a practice that first appeared in the USA in the 1930’s. The big screen is accessed through ample parking facilities where you can park your car. As such, you avoid the crowds and you can watch the film from the comfortable cocoon of your car. All types of films are proposed, from iconic classics to blockbusters, not forgetting other classics and family films. It is a moment to be shared and enjoyed, different from traditional cinemas. Check the Internet for locations of your nearest drive-in and outdoor cinemas.
